As a broadly-trained GIScientist, Jing Gao has a PhD in Geography (with a Minor in Computer Science) and a M.S. in GIS and Cartography from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and a B.S. in Remote Sensing and GIS from Beijing Normal University. Jing's primary research interests are two folds: (1) understand and reduce errors and uncertainties of geospatial models; (2) investigate and model land change dynamics, or more broadly, coupled social and natural processes and systems. Jing's work frequently draws on data-driven computational and analytical methods such as machine learning and data mining. At CIGI, Jing focuses on bringing together advanced computation and large-scale landscape studies, especially the characterization and analysis of the spatio-temporal patterns of landscape configuration and composition across large regions.
