Ecological Compliance Assessment Tool (EcoCAT)

EcoCAT is a state project funded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). EcoCAT was developed to help state agencies, units of local government, and the public initiate natural resource reviews for compliance with the Illinois Endangered Species Protection Act, the Illinois Natural Areas Preservation Act, and the Interagency Wetlands Policy Act. These laws require state agencies and units of local governments to consider the potential adverse effects of proposed actions on Illinois endangered and threatened species and sites listed on the Illinois Natural Areas Inventory. EcoCAT can also accept Information Requests for natural resource reviews that do not trigger government consultation. EcoCAT uses data from the Illinois Natural Heritage Database, GIS tools, and a set of programmed decision rules to determine if proposed actions are in the vicinity of protected natural resources.
