Detailed Impact Review Tool (DIRT)

DIRT (Detailed Impact Review Tool) is a web-based map tool supported by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The IDNR houses and administers the tool, but others benefit from use of the tool. Staff at the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) frequently use the map tool to assist in project planning and resource review activities as well as coordination efforts with IDNR. The DIRT map tool is not limited to wetland data. Base maps, administrative data layers, and resource data layers such as endangered and threatened species, buffers for listed species, and dedicated Illinois Nature Preserve boundaries are just a few of the data layers available in the tool.
